Flew to Boston Friday. Met our friends from Oregon at the airport and are gonna tour around New England for 10 days. We had a 9pm boat cruise around Boston Harbor booked and paid for. At 8:55 we were still en route to downtown trying to stay positive. We pulled our minivan up to the valet parking in front of the Boston Harbor hotel and handed the keys to who we hoped was a legit valet for the hotel and ran down the dock as they were throwing the ropes onboard a packed boat with music and dancing and a DJ as it pulled away from the dock. Turns out that was the party cruise - ours was the paddle wheel boat behind it. Much more low key and only 10 people on board. That’s a WIN! Beautiful night out on the water as we toasted to arriving safely for the start of our trip.
After the cruise we headed to our hotel. Spent night one at the Omni in Boston. It was a beautiful place with great views of the city from our rooms on the 16th floor. Another win!
In the morning we headed to Sturbridge, MA after walking around Fenway Park. Visited the Wayside Historic Site where they were having their annual Colonial Faire. Cool event with people dressed in period clothing selling their wares and playing music. On site was an old but still active grist mill where they make flour used on site at the bakery. Win.
Next we headed to the Old Sturbridge Village which is a living history museum. Tons of old buildings and animals and history…. A must see if you’re ever in the area! While buying a couple souvenirs a guy overheard us talking about dinner and he suggested the Salem Inn & Tavern about 15 miles away. We took his advice and went there for dinner. Food was great and so were the cocktails (local hard apple cider and huckleberry hard lemonade). Ambiance was amazing. HUGE win!
After dinner we headed to check in to our hotel. The grounds are said to be beautiful but it was dark when we got here. The rooms, however, are another story…. They are NOT beautiful! Musty smell, popcorn ceilings, dark, dingy, rips in the furniture… it’s possible they offer an option of paying by the hour! Haha this was NOT a win! As I write this I’m in bed but my husband is asleep on TOP of the covers, fully clothed. Hopefully the music from the wedding reception dies down at a decent hour - kinda sounds like we’re on Fremont St. in Vegas! But whatcha gonna do?! It was a great day one but it’s true: you win some, ya lose some!
