Lake Skinner
Winchester, CA

Tucked into the rolling hills of Winchester, CA—right on the edge of Temecula wine country—this campground is a favorite of ours. The park is divided into three sections, with Section C offering the largest, most spacious sites. While the sites aren’t paved, they’re level and made up of well-packed dirt and gravel, making for an easy setup. Our favorite spots are in Section C, along the grass, with 301 being our favorite. When booking you'll need to check the site length, as they do vary.

There’s no shortage of amenities here: a camp store, boating and boat rentals, fishing, hiking and biking trails, laundry facilities, playgrounds, clean restrooms and showers, and even a group camping area. Kids will especially love the splash pad, and there are horseshoe pits available (bring your own shoes).

It’s also an excellent spot for stargazing thanks to the open skies, and if you’ve got bikes along, you’ll enjoy cruising the flat, easy terrain throughout the campground.

Rates are very reasonable too—typically around $50 per night.
