So says my husband. But I tell him it’s a road trip in our own vehicle so I can MAKE it fit! Just kidding (sort of). We hit the road the other day, heading to just outside of Sacramento for an antique truck show. Meeting friends there who are coming down from Oregon. Instead of just driving straight up after work at the end of the week, we said let’s take a couple days and drive up the coast before we head to the show. So we set out first for Solvang, a super cute little town known as the Danish capital of America. After finding a room (because I booked the wrong night at a super cute place that happened to have no vacancy the night we were actually there) we had dinner at the Brewing Company of Solvang. Great food and beer! Walked around town, bought some chocolate, then turned in for the night. In the morning we headed for the coast and took a little trip down memory lane when we stopped at the Madonna Inn, which is like stepping back into the 70s! Super cool, funky, unique place that both my husband and I had visited on road trips as kids with our families. Was fun to look around and see everything basically unchanged! Super well maintained though. Somewhere to stop and see for sure and I’m so glad we did. And my hubby, being the good sport that he is, pulled over and let me visit with some beautiful horses who loved having their pictures taken. From there we continued north along the coast and stopped in Cayucos to get cookies at the Brown Butter Cookie shop. OMG the cookies are so good!! While there we walked out on the pier and admired the beautiful, sunshiny day! Back on the road, we headed to Hearst Castle. That place is amazing and so beautiful. If you’ve never been, you should make a point to go. The views alone are worth the price of admission. After having some wine at the Hearst Winery right on the beach, we headed to our room in Cambria (this one I booked for the right night - yea me). Had an awesome dinner, then walked on the beach and watched a beautiful sunset. Such an awesome day, spent making lots of new memories, which I am for sure taking with me…. ❤️
