A visit to Texas is a visit to the heart of America. For us, we love wandering around the countryside when we travel, taking in the sights and sounds and viewing the landscapes that are often so different than where we live in San Diego. On this last trip (Sept. 2021) we did just that: we put hundreds of miles on our rental truck just taking it all in. One of our favorite places was the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park in Johnson City, TX (not too far from Austin). The grounds were beautiful, and full of history and interesting tidbits of information (like the "friendship stones" of concrete he had dignitaries make handprints in & sign). The farm still has plenty of cattle and wildlife too, which was fun to see (I do love cows!). All in all, it was a great place to visit and we highly recommend stopping by if you're ever in the area!
