Had a great 4 days in NC! Helped to get our daughter settled - she even bought a new car (daughter back home did too and can’t wait to see it in person). Did a bunch of new house shopping and sightseeing around the area. Got to see a single A baseball game in Fayetteville which was awesome! They were celebrating Christmas in July which was fun. They even played Christmas music all night. And, the peckers won! Technically it’s the Woodpeckers - a Houston Astros’ farm team - but they go by the peckers. It was nice to see a team win…. being a Padres fan sometimes is tough, but I do love them win or lose. I even saw a Fernando Tatis/Padres fan at the game! I too was wearing a Padres shirt so we of course exchanged greetings haha. Yesterday we visited the Pinehurst golf course which was stunningly beautiful. They had a world juniors tournament going on so it was fun to see the kids out there having a good time. Had lunch at the Pinehurst Brewing Co. which had GREAT food (had BBQ brisket and pulled pork), and the beer wasn’t too bad either. I really love that area of NC. The small town feel and the beautiful landscapes and homes…. Like being in a Hallmark movie! Which reminds me, Christmas is only 4 1/2 months away!!  :)

Time for some new scenery though, so this morning at 0600 we headed out on the next phase. So far today we’ve gone through 6 states: North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. LOTS of rain the first half of the day. Flash floods and almost zero visibility kinda rains. But eventually the rain gave way to drier (albeit cloudy) skies which made for a really pleasant and less stressful second half of the day. Got in over 700 miles so that’s not too shabby. Stopped at the cutest KOA for the night in Grayville, Illinois. It has an old western theme, and has mini golf, a saloon and restaurant, and a playground our grandkids would LOVE!! Such a nice place.

Funny - this morning we hit West Virginia, so ever since then I’ve had John Denver’s “Take Me Home Country Roads” running through my mind! Fond memories of John Denver…. As a kid my dad would play an 8 track in his work truck of John Denver songs  over and over to teach me show me how to sing harmony. Memories like that, just like the views in our rear view mirror today, may get further and further away, but they stay with us for a lifetime…….  ❤️
