Absence makes the heart grow fonder..

Or as my dad would say, “Abscess makes the fart go Honda” but that’s a story for another day!
We set out at 0600 Friday morning for North Carolina. We say “0600” now because the daughter we’re moving there married a fine young man who is in the Army. He’s stationed at Ft. Bragg so that’s where we’re headed! Original plan was to rent a U-haul truck for the 3 of us and then hubby and I would fly home. HOWEVER…. Those things are cramped!! And add a cat and 110 degree temps to the mix & you have a pretty miserable 2,500 miles. So we decided to pack her stuff in a U-haul trailer and tow it with our motorhome! And instead of flying home, we will drive to Reno for a previously planned camping trip and meet our friends there for 4 days (for the Hot August Nights car show) before heading home. This way we get to see the country from recliners and an air conditioned cab, and will make it into a little road trip vacation (although 6,000 miles isn’t THAT little).
We’re currently on our 3rd day of driving. AC is working and the cat is doing well! We’ve stopped to see a few things - like Cadillac Ranch and The Big Texan restaurant in Amarillo (even took a pic with the big cow outside the restaurant like I did almost 50 years ago). But mainly we’re pedal to the metal so we can get to NC and spend some time with these kids before we head out. They got married back on 5/13 and he headed right back to NC afterwards. Their hearts have had plenty of time to grow fonder over the last couple years!! But now it’s time to close that distance gap and begin their next chapter. We will certainly feel her absence and miss her in SoCal though. But we are so proud of her and excited for her new adventure! And thank God for modern technology and (dare I say it) social media! Ha. At first 2,500 miles seemed so far but now I find myself wishing this first leg of our journey would last just a little bit longer…. ❤️
